Vehicle Description

This 1970 Chevelle SS is no ordinary muscle car. In fact, this incredibly rare car is one of only nineteen L78 convertibles built in 1970, one of ten four-speed manual L78 convertibles, and to be very specific, one of four that came in Fathom Blue. Built in Van Nuys, California and delivered to Nebraska in October of 1969, the vehicle spent most of it's life with the original owner in the Cornhusker State before making it's way to Des Moines, Iowa in 2009 for a complete restoration at Karl Kustoms. Starting with a rust free, 37,000 mile car, a complete frame-off restoration brought this SS back to its original state. Every detail on this Chevelle is correct, just like the day it rolled off the assembly line--even the rear window is date coded. Almost all of the sheet metal on this vehicle is original. Two build-sheets authenticate this numbers-correct car. Hundreds of build pictures are also available upon request for serious buyers. The engine is a numbers-matching L78 396 CI, producing 375 horsepower. Paired with the 396 is an M21 close ratio transmission and a 355 posi rear end. An Ivory White interior compliments the white vinyl convertible top. Since the restoration was completed in November 2010, the SS has been driven a mere sixty miles and has only been shown once. At the 2010 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Concours, it received a Gold Certificate for Excellence, scoring 992 points out of 1000 possible. Any serious collector would be proud to have this immaculate 1970 Chevelle SS as the centerpiece of his collection.
