The owner Bob Nunes was in the business for 40 years. He owned Pristine Auto Body in San Luis Obispo, California. The original car was sold and ended up in Illinois where Bob acquired it in 1989. This special T was an “Early Times Car Club” car for two decades up until the 70’s.
If you’ve been around hot rodding for decades you know this is one impressive T-Bucket! From any angle this car is unique. Cut bucket, enlarge top, a spectacular rear-end, long-long pipes, wire-rims and the stance all make this a Museum Piece for our era.
The upholstery is done in a deep-dark Champagne Mohair. The paint is classic Candy Apple-Purple throughout the body, frame and that ‘wozer’ of a rear-end.
Some of the obvious details are cut glass floral design. Too much power with 375 horse power coming out of a classic 327 Chevy engine─by the way the block is polished and smoothed. This is tied to a 2-speed B & M built Power Glide, which “yes” is also polished. The drive train is finished with a Jaguar Mark 10 rear that has been fully chromed and polished with a quick change center.
The exterior is finished with custom Buick wire wheels with the rears at 12 inches and bike wheels up front and stopped by disc brakes all around. The front is bounced on a torsion bar front suspension all machine fabricated. As long as we’re talking specialized fabrication we must include the entire frame, parts of the Jag rear, headlight brackets, radius rods, steering arm, washers and bolts and finally the stainless steering wheel. Not to be missed is the nicely fabricated battery box and 6 ½ inch brass radiator.
In the octagon them we finish off the visuals with air scoop, mirrors and gas tank!
For sale by Bob Nunes, contact Don at 619.804.8033 or see complete photo-shoot at www.DreamRodLocator.com or better yet read the write up in January 1971 Rod & Custom Magazine. (If you don’t have a copy we have plans to scan and post the article on DRL.com with a 100 picture photo-shoot planned soon.) Don’t faint, but the car is now lowered to sell at $33,000 firm, firm, firm. This is the first listing at this price starting January 17, 2010. California title, the car is contained in its own specially ‘room’ in Paso Robles, CA. To quote Bob, “The car would come with a Bill of Sale, two license plates. Buyer would have to go through DMV, original plate is registered as a 1923 T.”
Future possibilities: We suggest you contact John Buck promoter of the Grand National Roadster Show and the Sacramento Autorama and offer to schedule this car for next year’s distinctive presentation of Rod & Custom magazine cover cars. See this year’s first presentation of 32 cover cars from Rod & Custom and Street Rodder magazines at the Grand Nats in Pomona, CA January 29-30, 2010--the Tall T will be there!
